I wrote a couple of months ago about Voting in Canadian elections. We applied for Canadian citizenship last year, and I had really hoped to be able to vote in the Federal election on September 20 of this year. As a fallback, I’d hoped to vote in the Montreal municipal election, this weekend, November 6 and 7.
Well, we got our invitation to take the citizenship oath last week. Our ceremony is tomorrow, Monday, November 8. A day after the election!
I’m grateful for the chance to become a Canadian citizen, and I will be looking forward to voting in our next cycle of elections. I might even cast my first vote in the same election as my daughter Amita, who turned 16 this year.
If you’re in Montreal and a citizen, please go to the polls today! It’s an important election for the future of our city.
