Director of Open Technology at Open Earth Foundation

I’m excited to announce that I’ve joined the Open Earth Foundation as its new Director of Open Technology.

The OEF is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop Open Source software for climate change mitigation. We work with governments, NGOs, and technology companies to provide solutions for carbon emissions tracking, clean energy generation, healthy oceans, and more.

This is the role of a lifetime for me. I get to work at an organisation with a start-up size and mindset, developing new products with rapid iterations. I’ll be focused on Open Source software, open protocols, and collaborative development. I’ll be putting cool and cutting-edge tech to work solving real-world problems. And I’ll be managing a team of smart, passionate developers motivated to make the best software we can.

Most of all, this is a mission I believe in. I can’t imagine another cause that is more important to me than passing along a thriving ecosystem to the next generation. Working at the OEF is a chance to participate directly in the clean energy transition that will be a crucial step for our entire planet.

I will try to be transparent here about my work and progress as it develops. And I’ll be reaching out to friends, family and colleagues for help in the weeks and months ahead; here are some things to start off with:

  • If you’re a developer interested in these issues, please follow us on Github and watch for ways to contribute.
  • We have open job opportunities on our Careers page if you’re ready to make this your full-time job.
  • As a non-profit organization, we need partners and collaborators in tech, government, Open Source, and the environment to achieve our goals. Talk to me at evan at openearth dot org!
  • And, of course, donations are always welcome.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with finding this role, and thanks to my new teammates at the OEF who’ve been so welcoming as I’ve onboarded. I’m looking forward to doing great work with you all.
